36 hours and counting ....
Well not long now and there have been a number of changes made to the itinerary as the planning and acquisition of tickets has progressed..
So, all tickets that can be reserved have been reserved (with exception of Greece - as can’t get them until in the country for some reason). The train journey from Belgrade to Greece has now morphed into an air flight - only way to get over the boarder other than by car or foot - no trains or buses.
In Greece I’m taking a leap of faith that I can get a bus to Patras from Athens as cant seem to book it online. Never mind, I’ll get there somehow!!!
I’m still vague on the Italian bit as other than know that I want to go to Matera, Naples and Capri I’ve not given much thought to the rest. I’ll probably amble my way up to Pisa via Tuscany and fly out from there.
The itinerary now looks as follows:
14th May London to Bruges via Brussels
17th May Bruges to Berlin
20th May Berlin to Warsaw
22nd May Warsaw to Krakow
25th/26th Krakow to Budapest (overnight train)
29th May Budapest to Belgrade
1st June Fly from Belgrade to Thessoloniki
5th June Thessoloniki to Kalambaka
6th June Kalambaka to Athens
11th June Athens to Patras for overnight ferry to Italy
12th June arrive Bari, Italy.
I’ll fill in the rest as I formulate the route around Italy, but my Interrail ticket will have expired by this time so it will be down to sourcing tickets as I go. I’ve heard that the train service in Italy is excellent so will not be an issue leaving cquisition of tickets until day of travel.
Tomorrow is bag packing day - that’ll be interesting as have had 3 practice runs so far and each time I’ve had to leave stuff out. I’ll let you know how it goes!!!
