Day 18 - Belgrade day 2
Today it’s another walking tour - I’m sure getting more than my 10,000 steps a day in! The guide is a young chap call Zeljko (I think that how to spell it???), he’s a very enthusiastic 27 year old geography graduate. He starts the walk promising we will all love his magic backpack - in truth he has a bottle of his families home made Raikjia in it (a home brew very much like schnapps around 40% proof), but he waits until we are in the Bohemian district before revealing this - made of honey and he was right, we loved his backpack!.
The tour was all about the history of the Republic Square and surrounding areas, hence the Boho area which leads onto the Turkish and Jewish quarters then the fortress (again!). Once again these guides are so knowledgeable that not to take advantage of the ‘free walks’ would be rediculous. I’m not going to go into great depths like yesterday but just give you a view of the area through the photographs. Oh, must point out that Zeljko did the tour dress in national costume - he says in homage to his grandfather who made the Raikjia (look at his feet!)
Just to mention, in case your wondering about the reviser views the Fortress of Belgrade overlooks the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube. Below the Fortress and on the opposite bank is a very up-market drinks and dinner area wall the Waterfront.
